About youth

We provide a range of programmes for 11–18 year olds, provided both at our centre in Stranmillis and out in the community. Our qualified and skilled staff are dedicated to ensure that all our programmes are inclusive, enjoyable and tailored to the needs of every young person.

Connect Good Relations

“Connect Good Relations” is run in schools in the East Belfast area. Connect is a non–formal education programme, which uses dialogue and interactive methods to tackle issues of diversity, the religious divide in Northern Ireland and associated topics.

Connect Online

“Connect Online” is an exciting project which combines interactive and participative group work with clear information on which young people would make their own decisions about how to stay safe online. We also offer digital safeguarding training to teachers and youth workers.

The Duke of Edinburgh Award

The “Duke of Edinburgh Award” is a real adventure from beginning to end. You’ll find yourself helping people or the community, getting fitter, developing skills and going on an expedition. Bronze and Silver Programmes are available at Belfast YMCA.

“Northern Ireland National Citizen Service” (NI NCS) is a way for 15–17 year olds  to make extraordinary friendships, build skills for life and work and create unforgettable memories. Belfast YMCA has teams based in East Belfast and the Ards Peninsula.

Youth in Government

“Youth in Government” is a political education programme for 16 and 17 year olds. Participants discuss a range of interesting issues, meet with politicians, and visit the Stormont Assembly, The Houses of the Oireachtas in Dublin and The Houses of Parliament in Westminster.
