Experiences is an exciting extra–curricular project which is about young people getting to experience what life is like for others in their community. The group will not just talk about diversity, they will experience first–hand the different cultural, religious and sporting practicies of people in their community. Learning will be enhanced with the addition of dialogue sessions led by skilled Belfast YMCA facilitators.
The project includes visits and meetings with members of the clergy from different Christian, Jewish and Islamic traditions as well as visiting their places of worship. The will travel to Croke Park to watch a Gaelic match and watch a game of rugby in Belfast. Participants will get to hear a wide range of views and opinions. Our approach will be to encourage the group members to be proud of their own identity and also gain a better understanding of and more respect for the culture and values of others. They will also develop leadership skills so that they are equipped to make a positive contribution to their community.
We are currently recruiting for this project! We are looking for 25 young people from in or around the Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council area. Interested applicants should complete an “Expression of Interest” form either online or by post (both available below). We will then post out an application pack.
Experiences is funded under the Children and Young People’s objective of the PEACE IV Programme through Lisburn and Castlereagh City Council.
